A reading log that knows its prizes

Keep track of what you read, and how it all connects.

Margin logs your pages in a few seconds, then shows how books, authors, prizes and translators connect. Each suggestion comes with the reason for it.

A sample library

Pick a book from this shelf.

Every spine is generated from its title, so a book looks the same each time you open it. Width follows page count. A dot marks a prize link.

How it works

Four things it does well.

01 · Log

Log a session in under ten seconds.

Pick the book, enter the page you stopped on, and press the button. Margin works out how many pages you read and updates your pace and finish date. Ratings go in quarter-star steps, and you set them by dragging across the stars.

02 · Notes

Notes in the margin, sealed by page.

Leave a note, up to 280 characters, at the page you were on. Other readers of the book see it only once they reach that page. The lock is enforced by the database, not just the screen, and you can keep your notes private.

03 · Recommend

Every suggestion shows its path.

Margin looks at the prizes you follow and picks the winner closest to the books you rated highly: the one that shares the most prizes with them. It writes the reason as a marginal note, in plain sentences built from the prize records, so you can check it.

Prize records
Booker, International Booker and Nobel winners, plus Hugo, Nebula, Arthur C. Clarke and World Fantasy winners since 2010, with Booker shortlists and longlists where we hold them. New prizes drop in as another list with the same shape.

Reading sessions, ratings and notes belong to you. Export them as a file at any time, or delete your account and everything under it from settings.
The catalog is a starting set: not every prize or year is covered yet, and page counts are approximate. You can add any book that is missing.
